Posted on July 29, 2020
If you're looking for the right SUV for you and your family, there are a lot to choose from on the market. At Caledon Chrysler, we know you will be doing your research, so to help that process along, our sales and service staff wanted to put our 2017 Jeep Compass up against the 2017 Mazda CX-5. We think this quick look will highlight the pros and cons of both.
2017 Jeep Compass
The 2017 Jeep Compass is a tough and roomy four-door SUV that is available in four trim levels. There are two robust engines to choose from including a 2.4-liter DOHC 16V I-4 engine with Dual VVT that produces 172 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 165 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,400 rpm. Even with all the power including 907 kg in towing, you'll get fuel economy as good as 7.9L/100 km highway and 10.3L/100 km city and a highway driving range of 569 km.* There are also four different transmissions available:
- Six-speed automatic
- Five-speed manual
- CVT2 with off-road crawl ratio transmission
If you love taking your SUV on adventures, some trims come with Trail Rated capability which means that the 2017 Jeep Compass has passed five demanding off-roading tests, including ground clearance and articulation and water fording. To keep you and your passengers safe there are features like a continuous tire pressure monitoring system, Electronic Stability Control, advanced multistage front airbags, and available ParkView Rear Back-Up Camera. As far as comfort and technology, the 2017 Jeep Compass offers lots of standard and optional luxury and connectivity features including:
- Mopar Katzkin leather seats,
- Heated front seats
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise controls,
- SiriusXM satellite radio comes with a one-year subscription
- Uconnect multimedia systems
- Acoustic windshield with deep-tint sunscreen glass
2017 Mazda CX-5
Available in three trim levels (GX, GS, GT) and seven exterior colours, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 has seating for up to five. Most of the 2017 Mazda CX-5 trims come with forward or all-wheel drive and a standard SKYACTIV-G 2.5-litre DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine that produces 185 horsepower at 3,250 rpm and 185 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. As far as strength, the Mazda CX-5 only gives drivers a maximum of 907 kg in towing power, and there are no special off-road features or add-ons even on the higher trim levels. Other features you might be interested in include a seven-inch colour touchscreen display with Mazda Connect, trip computer, and LED headlights.
While both vehicles have unique benefits, the 2017 Jeep Compass is the clear winner on a number of fronts, including off-road capabilities, towing capacity, cost-effectiveness, and transmission/powertrain options.
