The 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has been selected as the 2018 Canadian Green Car Award as Best Plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicle. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is the industry's only plug-in hybrid electric minivan, it competed against well-established plug-in hybrid coupes and sedans.
The finalists were selected after extensive testing and assessment by the judges, comprised of 14 leading Canadian automotive journalists, who picked the top entries in four technology and vehicle type categories. The 2018 Canadian Green Car Awards for best-in-class were announced at the Green Living Show in early April at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
About the Canadian Green Car Awards
According to the Canadian Green Car Award, Canada's original environmentally-focused automotive award, the group now recognizes vehicles that offer impressive "green" attributes combined with strong mass-market appeal, based on the understanding that any product can have a significant environmental impact only if it sells in large numbers. To achieve this result, the assessments combined objective criteria, such as fuel economy, emissions and price, with the judges' evaluations of performance, driving experience, value, features and "green" qualities.
Chrysler created the minivan concept more than 35 years, and in its five generations has contributed over 115 innovations to the segment, including the industry's first minivan available as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
Best-in-Class Fuel Economy
With the introduction of a hybrid powertrain the award-winning Chrysler Pacifica takes this revolutionary vehicle a step further. It's the first electrified vehicle in the minivan segment and achieves best-in-class fuel economy of 2.6 litres equivalent per 100 kilometres (Le/100km) or 109 imperial miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) in city driving, up to 53 kilometres of all-electric range and 911 kilometres of total driving range* . No other minivan has come close to this rating.
The pivotal technology behind the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is its innovative eFlite single-electrically variable transmission (si-EVT). Designed by FCA US, the device features a 16-kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery powering two electric motors, which are both capable of driving the vehicle's wheels.
