2018 Dodge Grand Caravan New Features

If there's a better and more affordable way of getting up to seven people and their belongings around than the Dodge Grand Caravan it would be interesting to hear what it is. The Dodge family minivan has now been around in its current form for a decade and continues to be a popular choice with families on the go. So, let's take a closer look at the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan  to see why this particular minivan is the ultimate affordable family vehicle.

Interior practicality and versatility

This minivan has the looks and the expectation of thrill-a-minute high-performance driving being an offer. But the minimum requirements are ultimate practicality and versatility for accommodating the daily needs of a decent sized family. The interior of the Grand Caravan has plenty of room for up to seven people, there are some sensational storage options, and the outstanding Stow 'n 'Go seating system borders on legendary with its second row of individual captain's chairs or a small bench seat that magically dive into the floor when not needed. And with a tug of a lever, the entire third row also folds fully away for accommodating all sorts of cargo.

Powertrain

One thing a minivan can't overlook is the need for at least a reasonably powerful engine. It's not that buyers are going to be measuring the 0-60 mph or quarter-mile times of the Grand Caravan, but a seven-seat minivan fully loaded with people and cargo is a considerable weight to move down the road. Under the hood of the Dodge is a 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 engine developing 283 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. That power is sent to the front wheels through the standard issue six-speed automatic transmission. And as well as being powerful enough to cope with whatever you throw at it, the powertrain also delivers excellent straight line speed and a very quiet ride as the Grand Caravan does a good job of keeping out the sounds of the outside world.

Features and equipment

You can find minivans out there with higher levels of standard equipment than the Grand Caravan, but it's almost always possible to get more by paying more. But if you want to stay within a very reasonable budget the Dodge minivan still delivers all the essentials and plenty more. The entry level Canada Value Package (CVP) trim level includes: standard power windows and locks, a rearview camera, a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, air conditioning with front dual-zone manual temperature control, and 17-inch wheels. But at the other end of the trim level spectrum the GT adds the likes of leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual power sliding doors and power liftgate, overhead ambient surround lighting, 17-inch polished alloy wheels and more.

Fuel economy

Even though the Dodge is a reasonably large vehicle with a powerful V-6 engine it's not as bad on gas as some might expect. It's obviously not going to rival compact hatch for frugality, but its 17 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg combined is likely to be more than acceptable for shoppers in this segment.
